The Peacock and the Crane
"Well, there's something to be said for large families," said Miss Cornelia, with a sigh. "I was an only child for eight years and I did long for a brother and sister. Mother told me to pray for one--and pray I did, believe ME. Well, one day Aunt Nellie came to me and said, `Cornelia, there is a little brother for you upstairs in your ma's room. You can go up and see him.' I was so excited and delighted I just flew upstairs. And old Mrs. Flagg lifted up the baby for me to see. Lord, Anne, dearie, I never was so disappointed in my life. You see, I'd been praying for A BROTHER TWO YEARS OLDER THAN MYSELF."

If you regularly lament the fact that mobile games aren't challenging enough, then you're in luck - Quantum Shake has developed a real tough one in Tap Fly Hero.

As the name suggests, you have to tap to launch your chosen character throughout numerous challenging levels, avoiding lava and a variety of other pitfalls.

There are two buttons which launch you diagonally to the right or the left, and you have to use these in combination to maneuver about. It's trickier than it sounds.

So much so, in fact, that Quantum Shake were quick to point out that most players don't complete the first level until their second day of playing. That's what helps keep it addictive though, as you always feel like you'll manage it on your next attempt.
Anne and Gilbert found Uncle Jim sitting on a bench outside the lighthouse, putting the finishing touches to a wonderful, full-rigged, toy schooner. He rose and welcomed them to his abode with the gentle, unconscious courtesy that became him so well.

Our ten day free-game advent calendar bonanza may have come to an end, but we're still going to be using the days up until Christmas to point you in the direction of some games that are always free and are always worth your time.

Have you played Pair Solitaire yet? It's one of those card game variants that you won't believe hasn't been thought up before. I'll try and explain how it works.

52 cards are spread out across the table. You can remove a card if the card two spaces to the left or right is either the same number, or the same suit.

It's a super simple set-up, but this is a smart, tactical game that will have you acting logically and thinking several moves ahead. If you manage to thin the deck down to a few cards, the tension of each card removal becomes palpable.

It's free, it's slick, and it's only 69p to unlock the full game which removes adverts and adds a daily challenge mode and fetching new card backs. Get it here.

You can see the rest of the entries in our advent calendar by clicking right here.

It doesn't feel like it but half a decade has passed by in the blink of an eye and Candy Crush is turning five. Since it's a cause for celebration, King's got a few tasty bits in store for you over the coming week.

"You--you must think me crazy," stammered Anne, trying to recover her self-possession. To be seen by this stately girl in such an abandon of childishness--she, Mrs. Dr. Blythe, with all the dignity of the matron to keep up--it was too bad!
